Who would have thought that one third of the UKs armed forces would still be ill today after fighting in the Gulf War - 16,000 of them - due to their aberrant illness beliefs... including the belief that they were exposed to a chemical attack? Why does the army employ so many psychologically weak/ deluded folk??? No response from SW to news from US researchers that: it is associated with poisoning by the cholinesterase inhibitors sarin and organophosphates (these being known neurotoxins which give rise to multi-system illness) combined with the effect of pyridostigmine bromide which acts synergistically with them. No response either to the Governments unreserved apology over the Camelford water poisoning incident, which he presided over with the scientific integrity of Jade Goody (apols and RIP, Jade, ox). How long can this man go on denying so many folk their right to have their illnesses investigated? I wouldnt be able to live with myself if I were Simon Wessely - the guilt and the shame would weigh far too heavily... visions of the deaths of thousands of desperately ill folk, denied appropriate medical tests and state benefits haunt me and I bear no responsibility. How does it feel, Simon? Id really like to know how your psyche copes. Denial? I dont buy it. Nor stupidity. Why do you do it (apart from the money)? How can you do it and live with yourself? There was another ME death announced this week for an illness that isnt fatal and only effects middle aged, middle class women. He was 30 years old.
