Will start as Interaksyon columnist Monday. For starters, I will write how weak domestic institutions lead to an effete security posture and foreign policy. Weak institutions have led to a culture of make-do or puede na. Puede ba yun sa isang seryosong Tsina? Oo,puede kasi nandyan naman ang mga Amerikano, the ever reliable Americans who will never have budget problems and will never get so embroiled in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and else where, that they will forget us. Kasi, the Philippines, we, are SPECIAL to the American eye. We fought side by side in Bataan and Corregidor and Korea against the North Koreans and, surprise, surprise, the Chinese; and we joined the coalition of the willing. As an American protectorate, we never bothered to build a credible military for our external defense even when the US military bases agreement was not renewed in 1991. So we have jokes for our navy, coast guard, and air force. I guess we should not complain if strong states decide to play with us. Furthermore, we should not complain if our allies do not respect us since we are a pretend-state.
