“Will the True Mother’s Please Step Forth?” (PART II) 1 Kings 3:16-28 The most permanent, powerful and most necessary human relationship is the relationship between a husband and wife. The bible tells us that which God has joined together, let no man put asunder. However, the next closest relationship is the relationship between a mother and child. God gave us the perfect model of the emphasis on the relationship between a mother and child. God had to become flesh so He came through Mary by way of Jesus Christ. God recognized that a father was needed when He chose Mary at age 14 to bare Jesus. He added Joseph to establish the lineage for Jesus. The mother-child relationship was significant as there were few interactions mentioned between Jesus and Joseph. It was Mary who asked Jesus to turn the water into wine at the wedding. Even during the crucifixion, Jesus was suffering but paused during His torture to make provisions from His mother. In the passage there are two harlots living in the same home. Both of their husbands are dead. They had two baby boys three days apart. One of the harlots rolled over on her baby and decided to deceive the other harlot by switching the babies during the night. When the mother awakened to nurse her baby, she recognized that the baby was not hers. She went to the King and the ladies battle back and forth about who the true mother of the baby was. King Solomon was wise so he requested his sword to divide the baby. The true mother said give the baby to the other woman and the deceptive mother said to divide the baby in half. True mother’s have innate characteristics that they were born with. Mother’s are sacrificial and protective of their children. 1. A TRUE MOTHER KNOWS HER CHILD. In the passage, the mother knew that the dead baby was not her child when she saw him. 2. THE SINCERITY OF A TRUE MOTHER COMES OUT WHEN THE CHILD IS IN DANGER. In the passage, the real mother decided to give the child to the other women. She was willing to give the baby to the deceptive mother and see her baby survive and live with someone else versus seeing him die. We had to see the characteristics of the bad mother to get a complete picture of the true mother. The bad mother said to divide the baby in half. She was operating in a Spirit of Jealousy because her baby died. She wanted what the other mother had. She became bitter because the other harlot’s baby lived. She felt rejected because God had allowed her child to be taken. This led to her making an attempt to deceive everyone by taking the living baby and trying to pass it off as her own. The deceptive mother was even willing to see the baby die. The true mother told the King to give the baby away rather than dividing the baby in half. A TRUE MOTHER NEVER GIVES UP ON HER CHILD. A true mother makes sacrifices for her child. A true mother protects her child. King Solomon knew this and in the end, THE TRUE MOTHER STOOD UP and King Solomon gave the baby to the right woman. ~Bishop Coleman @GNHCM 5/11/2014 Mother’s Day Service
