Will you be watching the F1 this weekend? The Autodromo Nazionale Monza, or ‘La Pista Magica’ as named by the Italians, was built from May to July 1922 by 3,500 workers in the woodland setting of the Royal Villa of Monza. It was financed by the Milan Automobile Club and is located near the city of Monza, north of Milan. The site has three tracks – the 5.793 kilometres (3.600 mi) Grand Prix track, the 2.405 kilometres (1.494 mi) Junior track, and a 4.250 kilometres (2.641 mi) high speed Oval Track with its steep banking which has been unused for many decades but stands as an iconic landmark for this beautiful circuit. The Italian Grand Prix also has a special place in the F1 calendar due to the Tifosi, a word used to describe the supporters of Scuderia Ferrari in Formula One. Italian motor racing fans are well known for their love of Ferrari and the Tifosi have provided Formula One with some of the sport’s most iconic images. An example of this is the sea of red that fills the grandstands every year, which is thanks, in part, to the success of Michael Schumacher.
