Also on his marriage to Harriett Ann Baker in 1915 he is listed as a bachelor age 30 (b. 1885?) and she a spinster age 29 (b. 1886?) and they are both living at the same address ie. 5, Hope Cottages, East Street, Sittingbourne.. 1911 census. William Harris, age 28, a coal labourer, his “wife” (did not marry until 1915) Harriett Harris, (or Baker) age 24 (sic), and their sons James, 6, and George Harris, 4 are staying with William’s widowed mother Elizabeth (sic) (Margaret?), a licensed hawker on own account, her daughter Margaret Harris, 25, son James Harris, 22, a coal labourer. All are at 40, Victory Street, Sheerness, Kent. Harriett Harris filled in the census form and signed it. nb. Harriett is mother of 2, both living, married 2 years. The area is now known as Beachfields Park. In the morning the donkeys would be brought down from their field atop Telegraph Hill, Halfway and herded along Halfway Road, through Sheerness town to their site by the sea wall. In the evening it was the reverse procedure. They were well cared for by the family and for many years were a Sheerness seaside fixture.
