William Harrington was chairman and managing director of John Walker & Co. Ltd., Maryborough from 1884 till his death in 1918. He was born in 1840 at Kingland, Roscommon, Ireland and came to Australia in 1864. Settled in Victoria at Ballarat. Moved to Maryborough in 1870s to run John Walker & Co. He later became a part owner of the firm and when the company went public in 1884 he became chairman and managing director, where he remained until he died
