William Hope Hodgson Story of the Week...The Hog. Following on our last Hodgson story The Voice in the Night we now turn to The Hog. This is one of the several stories Mr Hodgson wrote about the occult detective Carnaki. In this tale Carnacki informs a few friends of an intriguing case he agreed to take on; that of helping a poor man who was suffering the worse nightmares anyone could conceive of. Far more then mere nightmares as Carnaki deduced right off. Something was trying to enter the waking world from beyond. To help rid the poor man of his night terrors and perhaps keep a greater evil at bay Carnaki places them both within a magic circle of sorts made of glass tubes of various hues. He lets the man fall into a slumber and soon the nightmares begin only they also manifest within the circle as well. Including the appearance of a monstrous hog like creature. Using science, color and occult knowledge Carnaki tries his best to defeat the tide of cosmic horror attempting to enter our world....does he succeed? Is the hog and all it represents still scratching from the borderland? Those who have read this story may know, though on the other hand... So who has read this one? Thoughts? A favorite of Lovecrafts. Illustration by our own amazing Art by our own Robert H. Knox.
