William S. Blauvelt a Private in the Union Army during the Civil War, died while in service (DIS) as a Prisoner of War (POW) in the infamous Andersonville POW Camp on 30 Sep 1864. William was assigned to Company B, 95th NY Volunteer Infantry. William was the son of Daniel Blauvelt and Hannah Goetschius. Andersonville is in Cherokee County, Georgia. The cemetery in Andersonville holds the remains of more than 13,800 Union soldiers who died at the prison. William is in grave 10083. The prison held more than 32,000 men, many of them wounded and starving, in horrific conditions with rampant disease, contaminated water, and only minimal shelter.
