William says we could probably find cinder blocks for free on craigslist, but I thought I would check here first ... see if any of you know of someone whos got some theyre givng away. Our property sits on a slope, so our backyard is not level - its slopes downward. Its not a drastic slope, but it slopes enough that when weve watered our garden in the past, the water ran down the yard. Hubby and I have talked in the past, about the need to build up our garden area - but weve been discouraged by the possible costs of doing so. I saw someone on here post a picture of their cinder block garden and thought that was a great idea! Cinder blocks can be found pretty cheap, even free, and what I thought was really cool was how this person used the holes in the cinder blocks to plant their herbs (and could plant flowers in there too - like for homemade essential oils). Finding free cinder blocks would help us greatly, and would most definitely give me better hopes for a more productive garden. So far, weve only been successful with our tomatoes. Everything else weve planted has died - either from the soil drying out too quickly, or those blasted grubs. I feel like weve wasted so much money on laying quality soil, and wasted so much time trying to keep the garden in good condition .... all for it to be ruined by an unworthy landscape. Once we get our cinder blocks, and build up our garden ... where would be a good place to get some quality soil? Id prefer some clean soil, if ya know what I mean; and where is a good place to buy organic/non-gmo plants? Our dear family friend, LaSydia, picked up some awesome mortgage lifter tomato plants for us ?last year - but only 2 survived :( ... those tomatoes were deliciously awesome, though!
