Williams Students: You are invited to Opening Night of the Williamstown Film Festival (williamstownfilmfest) - an evening with celebrated author John Irving on the challenges of adapting a novel to film. John Irving is the author of 13 books, nine of them (starting with The World According to Garp) international bestsellers. He won an Academy Award for his own adaptation of The Cider House Rules - the focus of tonights event, including clips from the 1999 film - directed by Lasse Halstrom and starring Tobey McGuire, Michael Caine, Paul Rudd, and Charlize Theron. The discussion and audience Q&A will be moderated by Williams professor of English and film Jim Shepard, an old friend of Irvings.
