Willie Rennie Yesterday Nick Clegg once again linked the rise of the YES movement and the SNP to that of UKIP. To be fair he did also mention the Greens in this odd speech that seemed to think that grievance politics was at the heart of these respective parties polling success. I could maybe understand this kind of language if it was solely linked to UKIP but how can a Party of Government for the last 8 years be backed purely due to people hating other parties. The Greens are also hardly a party of grievance considering they have very clear objectives that are on the whole very positive. This morning Willie Rennie appeared on Radio Scotland to defend Mr Clegg. I fully expected him to try and avoid backing the Deputy PM as clearly he has no idea how politics is now operating in Scotland. But Willie went even further. The Lib Dems have been brilliant in Government, they have the spine to stand up to the Tories and Labour and they are in politics for the long term and they know voters will back them compared to SNP and best of all that Jo Swinson will hold onto her seat. Clearly Mr Rennie has forgotten the SNP have been the Scottish Government since 2007 and we have had several elections since then and their support doesn’t seem to be slipping whereas ours is almost non-existent. We are left with two options; Willie Rennie believes what he is saying and thus is so far removed from reality his position in untenable or he is lying to the voters of Scotland. Whatever the answer what has become of our Lib Dems.
