Willowvale Spanish Mustangs 2014 foals are 5 months old already. How time flies!!! I am so impressed with the nature of both of these foals. They are extremely different from one another and uniquely special. Willowvale Mountain Heather is bold and super sweet. She is extremely smart to work with and loves to interact with me each day. She is very attached to her mother Sienna and vice versa. Willowvale Winter Sunshine is a strong. self assured colt who is maturing beautifully and is going to be very tall like his full sister Kihela. Sunny is strongly attached to his sister and our lead mare Sienna. He will spend all his time with them only seeking his mother out on the occasion he needs to drink. It has been fascinating watching him develop. Scout allows her foals to be very independent. From very early on, Sunny realised that Sienna would be a better protector for him so at the sign of any trouble he runs straight to Sienna. Sienna shares her feed with both foals and she is usually seen with one on either side of her when they move about the property. Sunny is drinking from his mother less and less already. Soon he will have the chance to spend some short sessions of time with his father Neosho under the watchful gaze of the herd of course. These short introductions will prepare him for transition to the bachelor herd once he chooses to leave the mares. I find as the colts mature, they become more and more interested in being with Neosho. Neosho is an incredibly gentle role model for the young colts and they seek him out readily for protection and guidance. I am excited to watch the relationship develop between father and son.
