Windows 8.1 Suffering the Same Fate as Windows - TopicsExpress

Windows 8.1 Suffering the Same Fate as Windows XP ****************************************************************** It’s no secret that Windows 8 has become Microsoft’s permanent problem. Just one week after the launch of ‘Windows 8.1 Update 1’, Microsoft announced that it was actually a cumulative update to Windows 8.1, and would be the new servicing baseline for the software. This means that any subsequent update for Windows 8 will require the Windows 8.1 Update which must be installed by May 13, 2014. Windows 8.1 obsolete If you choose to stay with Windows 8.1, you’ll face the same scenario as Windows XP users. The only difference is that the Windows XP cut-off comes a generous 13 years after its initial release. Windows 8.1 will only be 8 months old come May 13. There were many complaints about the 30-day leeway that Microsoft 8.1 users were given, so Microsoft extended the eligibility for security updates from 30 to 120 days for business users. Update 1 issue In addition to the abrupt change, Windows 8.1 Update 1 actually is flawed. The Update 1 prevents communication with WSUS 3.2 via SSL connections, and until the problem is fixed, Update 1 will not be deployed to affected machines. Affected users that have already downloaded Update 1 are advised to suspend its deployment until an update resolving the issues is released. Worth the trouble The upside to all this is that Windows 8.1 Update 1 is arguably the best and most important update released for Windows 8. For instance, users without touch screens are intelligently booted to the desktop; it reduces the sensitivity of hot corners, dramatically improves the Modern UI for keyboard and mouse users, and even runs faster on slower hardware. Simply put, Windows 8 is finally starting to realize the company’s lofty aspirations. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
