Winds and rains continue to grow as Tropical Storm Halong makes its way toward Guam, according to the latest press release from the Joint Information Center. Officials stress that as the storm approaches the island, it will become dangerous to go outside your homes after the closest point of approach at noon. The stronger winds and rains could last hours, the release states. Department of Public Works crews have been working to remove branches and trees blocking roadways. Officials also advise residents to not drive in these conditions. The Guam Power Authority is also fixing outages as they occur. Residents can report power outages or downed lines to 475-1472/3/4. As of 10:30 a.m., all flights to and from Guam are cancelled. The Ugum water treatment plant is producing water that meets EPA standards and doesnt need to close due to turbidity issues, according to Heidi Ballendorf, Guam Waterworks Authority spokeswoman. GWA is asking people to conserve water where ever they are, but the Water Authority is not seeing any outages in the southern villages as they had in the past.
