Windy Conditions for Round 2 of TT Series... Times were considerably slower across the board as riders battled the strong south westerly breeze that sprung up prior to the second event in the Marg Stoffers midweek TT series. Front marker Liesl Swart was certainly lamenting the wind as she came across the line but will no doubt benefit from the strong hit out. It was certainly difficult to break the 30 minute mark with Steve Camarri pleased to get just under 30 minutes and Garry Hastie just pleased to get around the 2 laps in one piece this week. Mark Thomas was riding within himself under coaches’ instructions and felt ‘he had plenty in reserve’ while Jessica Lawler showed the benefit of plenty of time on the front in recent criteriums to record a respectable 29.35. Good to see Craige Pettit out for his annual test run on his very fast looking TT bike and he was unlucky not to break the 28 minute mark. Ian Kugler put in another impressive effort on a not very fast looking bike showing once again how tough he is. Brent Allan was pleased to see Erin further back in the start list and was one of the few to go close to his time from two weeks previous, showing his fitness is improving. Jamie Coutts is a natural time triallist and once again put in a strong ride stopping the clock at 26.11, a few seconds quicker than Bernie who has been spending plenty of time on the track lately. The hero from Friday’s criterium, Ben Hastie once again rode strongly showing plenty of determination in the windy conditions. He was however overtaken by the Flying Regan Pye who although not back to his top fitness showed some of his previous smooth time trialling style in recording 24.39. Bryce Lanigan put in an excellent ride crossing the line in 24.48 and will no doubt go from strength to strength over the season. Erin Kineally once again put in an extremely strong ride in the conditions although was seeded so as not to break too many male ego’s this week. Nicholas felt his big frame was a disadvantage in the conditions but still rode well, while Connor put in an excellent ride in the conditions. Young Mian Grimbeek was so focused he missed the turn back onto the home straight but was still fastest of the one lappers. Young Courtland Wood looked more focused this week and got one up on rival Harrison Lawler with both recording great times. Out in front Isabella Commons always looks like she is enjoying it and with brother Josh chasing her down, no doubt she will be looking to go faster in the coming weeks. Good to see Alex Hastie putting the effort in as well and showing determination into the wind on the home straight. The next TT will be on the Busselton course on the 17th while there is a club criterium this coming Friday at Stratham.
