Winners announced from the 2013 Community First Credit Union Inter Schools Culinary Challenge at Northern Beaches Campus The second heat of the Community First Credit Union Inter Schools Culinary Challenge was held on 26th July, 2013 at TAFE NSW Northern Sydney Institute Northern Beaches Campus to highlight careers in Commercial Cookery and to showcase the culinary skills of students studying hospitality at high school. On the day Hospitality students represented five (5) local high schools. They were required to prepare and present Pan fried Lamb Rump with ratatouille, black olive tapenade and basil oil as demonstrated by local leading Executive Chef Serge Dansereau from The Bathers Pavilion. The key focus of this event was on "technical skill" and the ability to present a dish as shown on the day for our panel of industry judges. Outstanding performances on the day resulted in Jennifer Van De Walle from Freshwater Senior Campus being announced overall winner and achieving first place. The placegetters on the day were: • 2nd Place: Jordan Newland from Pittwater High School • 3rd Place: Kai Schaefer from Killarney Heights High School In this competition the winning Hospitality student walked away with cash prizes with thanks to our corporate sponsors - in particular, Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) and Community First Credit Union.
