Winners of the team arguing for the motion who were adjudged the winners of the debate is seen with M. (Morung Photo) Dimapur, June 7 (MExN): A debate on Human Rights and Social Justice organized by Nagaland Police in collaboration with National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi was held today at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chumukedima, Dimapur. This was the 9th Nagaland State level debate competition held on Human Right issues. DGP (Prisons) Nagaland who was the chief guest for the programme in his key note address congratulated the Nagaland Police for creating awareness on Human Rights and Social Justice and taking the campaign all over State. He stated that Human Rights is as old as the existence of human beings but added “unfortunately our human wants are unlimited and in the course of our journey of human race it starts to violate Human Rights of individuals”. He also urged the police personnel present in the programme to take all that they have learnt at the debate competition and share the information whether it is in the home or at their units. “This should not just be for debate sake,” he said. He also opined that individuals who have committed crime should be punished but one should not forget that they are also humans and treat them humanely. Remarks were made by jury comprising of M. Elias Ezung, Public Prosecutor Wokha, Limasunep Jamir, IPS, SP Wokha and Keren Rose, Correspondent from The Morung Express. The topic for the debate was “Human Rights and Social Justice are never delivered to the poor and illiterate in Naga Society”. The participants for the debate are prize winners selected from among various debate competitions held in the district level and from there ranges i.e Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung. The team supporting the motion was led by Dy. SP (Prob) Yanbemo Humtsoe DEF Kohima and included ABSI Mhonyamo, 13 NAP (IR) Bn, VBSI Chopika Sema, DEF Mokokchung, VBSI Theja Rio from DEF Mokokchung and L/NK Veisulu from DEF Phek. While the team against the motion was led by Dy. SP (Prob) James Jami from DEF Dimapur and included VBSI (Prob) Athui Kaurinta from DEF Kohima, ABSI Mengubeizo from DEF Tuensang, ASI Nzanbemo Lotha from DEF Kiphire, and ASI T.R Abraham from DEF Kiphire. The team arguing for the motion eventually was adjudged the winners. In individual performance, ABSI Mhonyamo from 13 NAP (IR) Bn stood out from the rest securing the first position. While the runners up was James Jami from DEF Dimapur. The trophy was presented to the winning team by the chief guest. Vote of thanks was stated by K.Elias Lotha, IPS, DGIP (HR&SJ).
