Winning Words © May the words of my mouth, and the meditations of my heart, be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14 When most of us hear the words of Psalm 19:14, we immediately associate them with someone standing in front of a congregation about to preach, teach, or read from the Word of God. As they pray the words of this Psalm, they are asking that God be pleased with their words and use them to accomplish his purpose in the lives of their audience. However, how many of us stop to consider that we are preaching a powerful sermon everyday by the words that come out of our mouths as we go about the daily business of living? The way we live our lives and the words we speak in ordinary conversation may be the only sermon some folks will ever hear! Or, in the words of W. J. Toms, "Be careful how you live; you may be the only Bible your neighbor ever reads." As Christians, we are called to be ambassadors of Christ and to preach a message of reconciliation to a lost and dying world. The words of Psalm 19:14 are not just for preachers, teachers, and liturgists; they are for all of us who have been entrusted with the Gospel and sealed with God’s name. We are all commissioned to be ambassadors of reconciliation as we go about the daily business of living our lives as shining examples of God’s glory and grace. Every day presents us with yet another opportunity to preach God’s Word in a very practical way. As we continue to seek God’s will and way and align our priorities so that we are walking in sync with the Spirit, we are being transformed. And, as we begin to change, others begin to notice the difference. Suddenly we have an inner attitude that not only changes our hearts and our minds, but our outer countenance is transformed too. Our daily quiet time prepares us to meet the challenges of each new day in a way that proclaims we are ambassadors of reconciliation. Having found peace with God by putting him first in our lives, we can now offer that peace to others as well. Hiding God’s Word in our hearts gives us just the right words to say at just the right time—words that are pleasing in God’s sight. Each day brings us new opportunities to be the only Bible our friends, neighbors, co-workers, and even perhaps our family members will read that day. It is my hope and prayer that all of us will offer up the words of Psalm 19:14 as our personal prayer each and every day, and then determine to live a life that gives credence to the words of our mouths. O Lord, may the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight this day as I go forth to do your will and proclaim your word in all I say and do. The measure of my belief is this: the extent to which I put it into practice. ~~Anonymous -- Zebulon Hill Sr.
