Winnipeg, 26th.Dec., late 60s. - As a 4th.year UVic student, I flew to Winnipeg for the founding of the National Native University Students Association. Fewer than 50 of us in the whole country back then.- 24 of us showed up at the Fort Garry Hotel, then one of the biggest buildings in Winnipeg. I got elected the first president of the group, running only because the chosen candidate kept saying that Our Future lay with going to work for White industry and government, particularly DIA. No surprise given that the conference was organized & sponsored by DIA. My platform was TREATY, LAND CLAIMS & FREEDOM FROM DIA. - He went on to be the Deputy minister, an Ambassador and a very wealthy man now comfortably retired. - I sit alone in a basement suite, and the Fort Garry can hardly be seen among the new buildings.
