Winston & Adolf: Forbidden Love ROMEO AND JULIET: ACT 2 SCENE 2 By: Chris Rowan and Will Pringle Based on the play by: William Shakespeare Prologue This scene is based off real events. It has many historical facts and some non-historical facts. In summary this is just two people being ridiculous in thinking that it is not, thank you. Winston enters looking somewhat angry WINSTON How can he joke of scars if he’s never felt a wound? Adolf appears in the balcony But alas, is that light I see? Yes, by that window. It is Eastern Europe and Adolf is the sun! Virginity is for fools, let it go Adolf! Let it go. Oh there’s my love; how I wish he knew how much I love him. Oh how I drown in those deep blue eyes. If his eyes were in the night sky, they would shine so brightly, birds would begin to sing thinking it was dawn. ADOLF NEIN NEIN NEIN! - Yes, the people will love that. Such authority, such power. WINSTON (aside) He speaks! Oh speak again Führer of my heart! ADOLF Oh Winston Churchill; I can be the Dictator of Deutschland, yet all I want is to be under the arm of mein lover. Why do you have to be English, deny your nationality and join me! If not, I will no longer be a Nazi. (ROUGHLY 1 MINUTE SHOULD PASS BY THIS POINT) WINSTON (to Adolf) I trust your word! Call me your love, and I will no longer be an English allie. ADOLF Who says this? Why do you hide in the dark and listen to my thoughts? Who are you I ask? WINSTON Dearest Adolf, I hate my name: because my name is your sworn enemy. If I were to write it down, I would obliterate it, knowing it holds us apart. ADOLF Is this the voice of the man I’ve heard on BBC radio, the man whose voice erects millions of listeners to stand and fight, the man whos taken my heart and run away with it behind enemy lines. Winston… Is that you? WINSTON No, at least only if you’d prefer me not. ADOLF How did you get here? Why did you come? The walls are high, and there are many soldiers on guard. If any one of my secret service find you here, they’ll kill you for who you are! WINSTON Love, Mr. Hitler, love gave me wings, love gave me determination, love gave me the strength, to come to you. (ROUGHLY 2 MINUTES SHOULD HAVE PASSED BY THIS POINT) ADOLF But my love, if they see you, they will murder you. WINSTON One look of displeasure from your face is worse than twenty of your guards with guns. Look to me with love, and I am bulletproof to their enmity. If you do not love me, let them find me! ADOLF How did you find out where my private office is? WINSTON As I said before, love showed me the way. I’m not a pilot, but if I was I would fly the farthest skies, risking anything, for you to be mine. ADOLF If the dark of night wasn’t hiding it, you could see how bright red my face is from blood rushing to it. Winston puts a hand over his mouth and smiles Answer me this Winston, do you love me? I know you will say “yes” and I will take your word for it, but you may be lying. Oh gentle Winston, if you love me: prove it. Or if you think I’m too easily won over, I’ll frown and play hard to get so you try to woo me over. Oh you adorable English man, I’m almost too fond of you; please do not think my love is not serious. Trust me, gentleman, I’ll prove myself more faithful than any other dictator in the land. I confess that I would have preferred to be less open, but since you heard me it is too late for that. So pardon my behaviour, and do not think that since you are so easy to love, my love isn’t serious. WINSTON Oh Adolf, I swear by the British Empire, that you... You, are my true love. ADOLF Oh yes Winston, my whole life I believed the Aryan Herrenvolk of Atlantis to be the master race. But I was wrong because you, Winston, you with your beauty, your intelligence, your integrity. You, are perfection. I hear a noise from inside, dear love. It could be Himmler scared from one of his nightmares or possibly a guard. I have no choice but to bid you adieu, my love. But only for a moment, stay here love: I will return. (Roughly almost 4 minutes should pass by this point) Exit Adolf WINSTON Oh blessed, blessed night! Without the bright light of my love I am afraid, could this all be a dream? Is this all too sweet to be real?
