Winter League Week Six Report The Stable Bar bandwagon - TopicsExpress

Winter League Week Six Report The Stable Bar bandwagon rolled on this week as they took on The Freckleton Social Club in their own back yard and came away with a 10-8 combination victory which consisted of 5-4 wins in both the darts and the dominoes! In the darts the home side threatened to spoil The Stables’ unbeaten start to the season as they took three of the first four singles points but the table toppers proved their credentials by claiming the last two and then went on to take the first doubles game to edge ahead 4-3. The Club hit back to win the penultimate leg to level things up but when it came to the crunch The Stable held their nerve to take the deciding game for the win. Virtually the same thing happened in the dominoes as both teams went into the break tied at three games each once again and it was déjà vu as the doubles panned out the same with the Kirkham team winning the last after the first two games were shared. They are now the only unbeaten team in the darts and the combination leagues, holding a seven point lead in the darts and a massive eighteen point advantage in the combination. Just for good measure, they also top the dominoes league by two points! Following last weeks’ defeat The Birley Arms got back to winning ways with a six – three darts victory away at The Stanley A but they will be disappointed that the margin was not even greater as the home side were very under-strength on the night and holding a five – one advantage following the singles, The Birley could only manage to win one of the three doubles as The Stanley reserves showed real character to make the score respectable. In fact at half time, it was looking like the visitors were going to enjoy a bumper night as they also had a four – two lead in the dominoes following the singles, meaning that in the combination they were nine - three up! But excellent pairings in the doubles dominoes remarkably saw The Stanley claim all three doubles points to claim an unlikely 5-4 win, meaning that they won five of the six doubles points available in both disciplines to go down fighting in the combination by ten points to eight. Last week’s victory over The Birley seemed to have inspired The Oak B as they destroyed The Lane Ends 8-1 in the darts with only Sam Cain tasting defeat, but they were unable to make home advantage count as they went down narrowly in the dominoes by five games to four. That stunning darts win really puts Stan Boardman’s team in the frame as they rise to third in the league, ten points behind the leaders, but having only lost one game so far this season, they appear to be a team to be reckoned with. Something had to give in the game between The Queens and The Royal Oak A with regards to one of these teams claiming a first darts win of the season, and it was the Wesham team who prevailed, claiming a 7-2 win having had the win points in the bag by the end of the singles thanks to a five – one success. They also took the dominoes 6-3, a result that never looked in doubt as after leading four – two from the singles, they easily won the first two doubles and even though the home side took the last, Skel’s team enjoyed a morale boosting 13-5 win in the combination. It is also worth noting that they sit only two points off the top of the table in the dominoes in second but don’t tell anyone……shusssshhhhhhh ! The Stanley B couldn’t quite back up their stunning 8-1 dominoes success from last week as they went down 5-4 away at The Clifton Arms, who themselves are now working their way steadily up that table. The visitors did however claim a narrow 10-8 combination victory on the back of a solid 6-3 win in the darts thanks to three wins from three in the doubles after the two sides were locked together at three all after the singles. They now find themselves safely ensconced in mid-table in both the darts and the combination but that defeat in the dominoes still leaves them at the foot of the table with plenty of work to do. Next week, the draw for the Prelims of The Knockout Cup will take place as we edge towards the last few games of the first half of the season. In the league, The Stable entertain The Stanley A, The Frec Social Club will be hoping stay in touch at the top of the darts league as they travel to The Clifton Arms. The Oak A will be hard pushed to follow up this week’s win as The Birley are their visitors whilst across the road The Stanley B welcome neighbours The Oak B. The Queens travel to The Lane Ends.
