Winter Storm Frona will be a long-lasting winter storm that will bring heavy snow to the Pacific Northwest and Southwest through early next week. Some of the same areas that were hit by Winter Storm Eris will see snow again as Arctic air spills southward through the West this weekend. This Arctic blast will supply the necessary cold air for snow and the upper-level pattern will provide the lift necessary to squeeze out moderate to heavy snowfall over a large area. This storm will likely impact the Midwest later next week. Sundays Forecast This Weekend Winter Storm Frona will bring significant snow to the Cascades, Bitterroots and the Wasatch mountains through Sunday night. Total snow accumulations will likely be over a foot and winter storm warnings are in effect for these areas. Valley locations will also see snow as the cold air dives southward, with generally less than 5 inches expected. This includes Spokane, Boise and Great Falls where winter weather advisories are in place. Winter storm watches are posted for Salt Lake City as snow is expected to develop by Sunday morning, with the heaviest snow occurring from Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Mondays Forecast Next Week On Monday, snow will continue in the Rockies and light snow may spread into parts of the Plains, including Nebraska, South Dakota and western Iowa. The snow will shift southward Monday into Tuesday into the Sierra. The cold air will also spread south through early next week bringing snow to the San Gabriel and San Bernadino Mountains of Southern California. Significant snow is likely for much of Nevada, northern Arizona and New Mexico through midweek. Winter Storm Frona may move eastward mid-to-late next week and could bring a mix of rain and snow from the Southern Plains into the Midwest.
