Winter Symbel Prolog: The King of Europa summons his retainers to a mid winter feast, in his realm on the border of the mountains and forests of Hazelbrook. The invitation goes out also, to our friends and neighbours, with whom we would renew the bonds of friendship. Activities: This is a re enactment camping weekend, with a variety of activities during the day, and a Symbel in the late afternoon. The Symbel is a traditional Saxon court, presided over by the King, at which Europingas and visitors are ritually greeted, complimented and challenged. There is a formal sharing of the ale, to reinforce the bonds of hospitality, following which the short performance concludes, and informality resumes. We hope you will take part in this attempt to recreate a piece of Saxon pageantry. Over the weekend, we intend to run competitions; bring your entries for the bardic, brewing and baking events. There will also be fire starting, and other novelty events. Archery and combats will also be run. You will need: A tent, or similar. No hard accommodation available, though there are hotels and motels not that far away, along the highway. Suitable medieval costume, including warm clothes for a crisp winter evening. Feasting gear. Your preference in foods and drinks. Enough water for your own needs. We shall provide the long pit, cooking fire, firewood and on site toilets. Date and location: The Winter Symbel has been arranged for 9th – 10th of August, 2014. The camp is on secluded acreage, at 177-99 Valley Rd, Hazelbrook. See map and directions, for details. Arrive after 10:00 on Saturday morning, and stay as late as Sunday afternoon if you like. Payment: $10 per head. Under 15 year olds are free. You may make payment in advance, to Europa Medieval Society. If via direct debit, our details are: Account name: Europa Re-enactment Incorporated Bank: Springwood Westpac Bank Account: 210540 BSB: 032-837 Don’t forget to add your name as an identifier. Contacts: Secretary: Adrian Plummer Email: [email protected] 0418 270 942 Treasurer: Steve Close Email: close.tribe@gmail Phone: 0421 416330 We look forward to seeing you soon. How to get there: the address is 177 – 199 Valley Rd, Hazelbrook. Valley Rd is on the south side of the highway and railway corridor, as it crosses the central Blue Mountains. To reach it, turn south either at Railway Parade before Woodford, at Park Rd after Woodford, or where Oaklands Rd intersects the highway at the Hazelbrook traffic lights. The latter goes under the railway to Railway Pde. Railway Parade runs parallel to the railway line, between Woodford and Hazelbrook. Closer to the Hazelbrook end, Valley Rd branches off it and heads south. Valley Rd is about 3 km long, and the site is at the very end of the road, closed by a farm gate. Once through the gate, continue in a straight line down the ridge trail. Do not turn left, down the hill to the neighbouring property. You should see us after 200 metres. If all else fails, call Kim and Graeme, on 0419 142239. Hope you can join us at our new location.
