Winter Weather Advisory Statement as of 2:43 PM CST on November 19, 2014 ...Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 am EST /3 am CST/ Friday... Hazardous weather... * accumulations: lake effect snow showers will vary greatly from north to south across the area. Accumulations of 3 to 6 inches...with higher amounts...are expected along the Indiana toll Road north...generally east of mile marker 45...to the state line. Amounts will diminish rapidly across southern parts of the counties...where 1 to 4 inches may fall. Most of the snow accumulation is expected from tonight through early Thursday evening. * Timing: lake effect snow showers will develop late this afternoon and intensify tonight into Thursday. The location of the heaviest bands will vary but should remain along and north of the Indiana toll Road. The snow showers are expected to diminish Thursday night. * West winds of 15 to 25 mph tonight through early Thursday evening will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibilities...making travel difficult at times. Impacts... * roads will be snow covered...slick and hazardous creating dangerous travel conditions. This may include portions of the Indiana toll Road...especially east of mile marker 45 as well as portions of Highway 31...33...20 and the 20 bypass. * The combination of heavier lake effect snow showers and strong winds will create significantly reduced visibilities at times and dangerous travel conditions. * Very cold temperatures are also expected with wind chills between zero and 10 above zero. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Weather Advisory for lake effect snow and blowing snow means that visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and blowing snow. Use caution when traveling... especially in open areas.
