Winter has 89 days from the winter solstice to the vernal equinox. - TopicsExpress

Winter has 89 days from the winter solstice to the vernal equinox. Summer has 93 and 5/8th days from the summer solstice to the autumnal equinox. This is the case only in the Northern Hemisphere. If you live in Brisbane or Santiago or Johannesburg, your winters are actually longer. Summer in Australia is also the Earths perihelion, its closest on its elliptical orbit around the Sun, at 0.9832687 AU, which now falls on Jan 3rd. (Hey, thats today!) About 6.9% more solar energy reach the Earth at perihelion relative to aphelion, and much of this excess energy is absorbed by the higher proportion of water in the Southern Hemisphere.
