Winter storm warning: 6 TO 8 INCHES WITH HIGHER AMOUNTS OF 8 TO 10 INCHES ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE POTOMAC HIGHLANDS. Be Sure to Keep That Exhaust Pipe Clear… We choose to live in an area that gets its fair share of solid winter weather – ice storms, blizzard conditions, freak snowfall amounts – but they are hit or miss events each winter season. That said, we often forget important safety tips because such storms are not a regular occurrence. One thing that everyone should keep in mind while traveling this winter is to remember to keep your exhaust pipe on your car or truck clear of snow, ice, and other debris. A clogged exhaust pipe packed full of snow can be a dangerous and deadly thing. Without an outlet for deadly carbon monoxide in exhaust fumes, the fumes can back up into the passenger compartment and become deadly to passengers – in a very short period of time. Always remember to check your exhaust pipe in the event of heavy snowfall and also check for blockage caused by passing snow plows. And always verify that the exhaust pipe is clear and remains clear if you are anyone else is sitting in an idling vehicle to keep warm. Carbon monoxide levels build quickly, are silent, and can kill quickly. Be on the safe side – check it often and keep it clear!
