Wintering ground surveys happening this month! Biologists will be counting waterfowl in low-flying planes in #Oregon and #Washington. Since 1935 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and state wildlife agencies have conducted the Midwinter Waterfowl Survey across the nation. Surveys include low altitude flights over concentrations of waterfowl across a large portion of each state. Visitors to National Wildlife Refuges in Oregon and Washington should be aware that low-flying aircraft likely have a biologist or two inside, counting the ducks and geese below. The survey provides information on population trends, distribution on the wintering grounds, and habitat use. For more information about the Midwinter Waterfowl Survey please visit: bit.ly/1wQ3s0g
