Wise Words From Aaron Goicoechea: So, I see that emotions are overriding the issue... The real issue is that the people of Elko County own land next to the dispatch center. That land is already owned... The site they want will cost much more than $315,000.00. After capital improvements, it will run well over $900,000.00.... Not necessary to buy if we already own. 2. the cost Local engineering firms have priced out the project at around 3.5 to 4.0 million. Why do they need 6.5 million? 3. Why do they need a building that is over a third of an acre? Seems a bit of an over-kill... 4. Is it wise, as a city council, to be spending money earmarked for street improvements on anything other than fixing our streets, because we all know the streets in Elko need as much help as they can get. I think most rational people believe that the police department need a much improved building, its just not fiscally responsible to steal from one sector to give to another. And lastly, we should look at who benefits from the capital improvements at the site that is proposed by the city council. There are a select few people that will gain financially if that site near the igloo gets chosen.... Money drives everything in life dont kidd yourselves.
