Wish you all Hindu & Sikh friends and foes - Deepavali Nal Valthukal! :* Have non stop fun with your love ones and remember on this auspicious day, its always good to FORGIVE and FORGET. Kill the demon that resides in your MIND. Eradicate the darkness that engulfs your HEART. Light up the lamp that brightens your SOUL. And dont forget to let your loved ones know that they really matter. Uncle CHIVAS, Aunty MURUKKU and Ms. MUTTON are doing their visiting today. So, please dont forget to meet them! :P Deepavali and Diwali are the same thing. It is pronounced differently in different parts of India. Diwali is mostly in Northern India. People say Deepavali is the festival of lights. Folklore says it is the day light shone over darkness. But what does this exactly mean? :/ I don’t really know what the ancient people thought (ancient people were kind of kinky and strange) but this is how I interpret it (and my interpretation of light has got nothing to do with TNB). :D For thousands of years, the sick were often regarded as possessed by demons (including ghost, genie & spirits). Ancient artifacts (Egyptian, Indian, Greece, Roman, Persian, Assyrian, etc) tell us that the people in the olden days believed that the sick can be healed by casting out of devil (it was big business for the shaman, witch doctors, bomohs, etc). Later, the advent of scientific thinking, study of the human anatomy, discovery of bacteria and viruses, led to better understanding of diseases. Excellent work undertaken by scientists such as Louis Pasteur, Robert Koch and Joseph Lister in the 19th century led to discovery of many cures. People started realising that diseases have specific causes, not the devil. Knowledge shined over ignorance. For me, light shining over darkness is really KNOWLEDGE SHINING OVER IGNORANCE! 8| Deepavali is not about the flashy new clothes, the endless festive foods or the amount of Deepavali money collected. It has deeper meanings to understand, celebrating the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness. I am sure there will be a lot of people who cant even afford to celebrate, so spread the cheer around, share whatever you can, bring some light into their lives. After all, ultimately, all that we have are each other. Take a moment to reflect. God is within, in all the good you do! O:) In this festival of lights, enjoy your MURUKKUs, LADDU, GULAB JAMUN, BARFI, JALEBI, HALWA and MUTTON but be sure to share with those who needs it more. Dont forget to SAVE some for me! :v Lets breath in this joyous day with LOVE, PEACE and HAPPINESS. Have a lovely day ahead. Dont forget to smile! :) Happy Deepavali, everyone! ;) #Diwali2014 #FestivalOfLight #FestivalOfSweets #IndianChristmas
