Wishing all a joyous Christmas, Christmas season, and all - TopicsExpress

Wishing all a joyous Christmas, Christmas season, and all blessings in the New Year! It occurs to me that to wish someone Merry Christmas, or Happy Hannukah, is to recognize and respect them as persons who have their identity based in their religious commitment. Happy Holidays, like so many other generalized and non specific ideas in our society, does not recognize or even acknowledge the personal commitment that we have in our faith, nor the identity that flows from it. Just as to use non-gender specific pronouns, it is a depersonalization, and ultimately, a dehumanization, that flows from political correctness. So forget Happy Holidays. Show respect to those who have committed themselves to a religious tradition, and acknowledge it. It certainly does not diminish my Christianity to say Happy Hannukah to a faithful Jew, nor Happy Eid to a faithful Muslim. Rather, our Christianity is only enhanced when we show respect to others as persons.
