Wishing you all a blessed 2015! May it be filled with laughter, great personal accomplishments, love & unity! Im getting my new year started off traditionally... I have the black eyed peas soaking & getting seasoned, going to pop the ends of the green beans and get them soaked & ready to cook, have corn bread ready to go & a perfect pork loin seasoned & marinading until cooking time !!!! Black eyed peas were considered food for the poor so on New Years you eat them to remind yourself to be humble & thankful... The green beans ( I trade off between green beans & collard greens - this year is green beans) represent money (green), therefore wishing for a prosperous new year... The corn bread is to represent gold - which reminds us that throughout the year we should follow & love by the GOLDEN RULE, Pork is generally eaten because pork is a rich meat, representing the riches that can be in this new year (not just monetary riches but also personal, charitable & being enriched)... Plus pork is just darn delicious! An old Southern saying is Peas for pennies, greens for dollars, and cornbread for gold There is so much history behind the New Years Day meal... We have celebrated this meal for as long as I can remember....
