Witchcraft forces Matovu out of secular music Samalie Matovu one of the top musicians in Uganda between 2010 and 2012 has decided to abandon secular music because of witchcraft. Samalie Matovu one of the top musicians in Uganda between 2010 and 2012 has decided to abandon secular music which she insinuated is full of witchcraft. Matovu is best known for her hit single omukwano gunyuma which was a favorite across the country around the time she was at the top of the music ladder. After that song, Samalie Matovu remained a solo musician until a year later when she decided to join the Hares music group owned by David Lutalo. Matovu spent only four months in the group before going solo again and then joined Kream Productions owned by Haruna Mubiru. Throughout this time she never had a hit as big as omukwano gunyuma. Samalie discovers witchcraft around her Increasingly frustrated, Samalie Matovu said that she opted to find out what the problem was. She says she discovered that she was being bewitched by colleagues in the music industry who did not want her to progress. Matovu claims she would find funny substances in her bag, in her clothes and in her room whenever she travelled for performances out of town with other musicians. Despite spending a lot of money in the studio and distributing it across different radio and television stations, she failed to achieve the success she had with omukwano gunyuma. Stranded, Samalie decided to talk to Kream Production band owner and leader Haruna Mubiru. I told Hajji Mubiru that I could not stand this anymore. I explained that this was unbearable and I had to leave his band.Haruna told me that everywhere you go in music in Uganda you will find those kind of things, all of us have faced them and still face them. We try to live with it. When you see them throw them away but do not leave the band or music, she says Mubiru counseled. Samalie Matovu took a break for at least six months where she did a lot of soul searching. When she came back, she told Haruna Mubiru that she was not only leaving his band, she was leaving secular music completely. Immediately after that discussion she went to a church on Sunday where she started singing gospel again where she started from. The Pastor in that service told the church, Samalie is back. They wanted to kill her in the world, but God protected her. Samalie says she is recording a gospel album at the moment.
