With 2-4 of snow in the forecast for Monday evening, we would like share with you again an informational post regarding parking bans and weather information. Please pass it along. Thank you! We would like to take a moment to refresh you on winter weather information, parking bans, and collision alerts. The Canton Snow Removal Ordinance reads, “It shall be unlawful to park any vehicle on any public street in the city at any time within twelve (12) hours after a snow fall of three inches (3) or more has occurred. (Ord. 117, 10-6-1964)” When a parking ban or collision alert is put into effect, the police department will notify WBYS 1560am/CD Country 107.9fm, The Canton Daily Ledger, and all local news channels. We will also post updates frequently on this facebook page. We count on those following our page to share these statuses to help us get the word out in parking ban situations. Parking bans apply to ALL city streets. The more vehicles we get moved off the streets, the better the public works department can clean and treat the streets. We frequently receive questions about where to park when not allowed to park on the streets. A few suggestions include- asking a neighbor to park in their driveway or yard temporarily, parking in your yard (try to avoid blocking the sidewalk or terrace if possible), asking a nearby business or organization if you may park in their lot once it is cleared, or make a plan in advance with a friend or family member that may be able to keep your car in their driveway and give you a ride home. A collision alert will be issued if weather conditions are causing a large number of traffic accidents. If there are no injuries and the involved vehicles are operable, you may be asked to exchange information with the other drivers involved and report the accident at the police department at a later time within 36 hours. This allows officers to tend to accidents involving injuries and lane blockage as quickly as possible. These are a few of the websites we find helpful during winter the weather season- For statewide road conditions go to gettingaroundillinois For local road conditions, go to gettingaroundpeoria which shows the IDOT camera network throughout central IL including the camera at Main and Locust (IL9/IL78) in Canton. local.nixle/fulton-county-esda/ We suggest signing up to receive emergency text message affecting Canton and all of Fulton County by texting FCEOC to 888777 If you are interested in school information, we suggest you contact the school your child attends and ask about getting registered for their text alert list. Many local schools also have facebook pages that will be updated with closing and early dismissal information.
