With 620 miles of trail complete (out of an eventual 1,000), it’s hard to pick a favorite stretch of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. So while we won’t say the 21-mile stretch of the MST along the Blue Ridge Parkway from Beech Gap to the Pisgah Inn is our favorite, we will say it’s high on the list. Very high. It passes Sam Knob, the Black Balsam area, Graveyard Fields and Falls, Looking Glass Rock, Skinny Dip Falls and a litany of other high alpine treats that represent a highlight reel of North Carolina hiking. It’s also some of the most accessible hiking in the mountains, starting high and staying high, eliminating a lot of the climbing that can be anathema to a hiker’s knees. It’s a fun, visually rewarding hike that you should have under your hiking belt — and you can, by joining our #GetHiking! North Carolina’s Classic Hikes program in 2015. It’s a hike a month of some of the state’s best hikes. Twelve months of classic hiking is yours by signing up, which you can do by visiting … greatoutdoorprovision/blog/explore-more-in-2015-hike-north-carolinas-classic-trails/
