With Hayao Miyazaki now officially retired, no one is sure who the next leading figure will be in anime. A Japanese survey showed that most people believed that Hayaos son, Goro, will be the next great anime director. Goro has only had two films under his belt so far, Tales from Earthsea and From Up On Poppy Hill, and only one of them has been considered well done so I think that its too early to say for him. Many of the names on this list I found too bland to fill void that Hayao Miyazaki has left behind. If there is a director that I think could possibly come close, it would have to be Mamoru Hosoda, whose every film so far have made for fantastic family movies that often moved me to tears. Of course, that is only my opinion that could be biased. Who do you think could be the next anime film master?
