With The Avengers doing crazy box office this summer, Warner Bros - TopicsExpress

With The Avengers doing crazy box office this summer, Warner Bros naturally dusted off it’s chestnut Justice League and the rumors on who would direct began swirling. They knew there was no chance for Christopher Nolan to return to this world so like any studio, they just start floating names of directors they like who’ve had some success. The studio likes Affleck, but the Gone Baby Gone & The Town director definitely likes more dramatic material, and when the rumor hit, I didn’t even write anything since it was pretty obvious that I’d already been told back in June that he wouldn’t be doing or even considering it. Last week Affleck finally officially said that that he’s not doing it and that it was all just a rumor. So that should put an end to that one. I’m curious to see how development continues on The Stand for him though. That’s a whopper of a film, and I think will draw much more interest than if he’d done a superhero film. Interestingly, Zack Snyder’s name hasn’t surfaced very much at Warner Bros. even though he’s directing Man Of Steel, but if that film doesn’t land very well, don’t expect a Justice League movie for a very long long time. It wouldn’t have been until 2015 anyway, but if one of their other big names in the franchise can’t get a hit movie it’s a hard sell. Marvel did it smart with building up to The Avengers, but most studios don’t have that patience as they want fast profits now. You can best there’ll be names here and there rumored to be on the project that wants to combine Superman, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman in one film, but since the Green Lantern didn’t land and Wonder Woman just doesn’t get much Hollywood respect in film or tv it’s a tough road for the film. Wonder Woman will get a cameo in Man Of Steel, but unless that film does some Iron Man type of box office, it’ll be another wish project to collect dust again until The Avengers 2 comes out to remind them.
