With Winter fast approaching and the weather changing to rain, I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to remind everyone about the umbrella, specially a steel ribbed one. I have personally recorded 2 videos to show exactly how it opens and closes, and some of its other features. The first video is a real time recording, the second is a slow motion one to a different backdrop, which slows the whole process and allows us to see how they work in more detail. This has been posted on a separate post due to only being allowed one video at a time. The word umbrella evolved from the Latin umbella (an umbel is a flat-topped rounded flower) or umbra, meaning shaded or shadow (the Latin word, in turn, derives from the Ancient Greek ómbros [όμβρος]). The suffix -elle is used in French to denote little, thus an umbrelle (umbrella) is a little shadow. Samuel Fox invented the steel ribbed umbrella in 1852. Trust everything is in order.
