With a burning heart and seething eyes, I wrote this poem on Peshawar attack: A mother’s lullaby Sleep my darling sleep Here, put your tired head on my shoulder I sing a lullaby As his cold body turned colder…. London Bridge is falling down Deep in a silent slumber Silence of tombs… I felt a pain in my empty womb.. I sing with blood oozing out of my eyes.. Music amidst loud cries….. Twinkle twinkle little stars….. How I wonder where you are??? Sing tonight as if it was the last song of this world A hymn…a eulogy…a mourner’s last sigh O it was I! Who walked my baby to the altar My eyes falter I shriek in the crowd Make it loud Like the drums in African jungles Sound of doom….. Is this the last bang then? So why has the world not ended? Tonight there are too many stars in the dark sky My love, So many flowers laid on earth Mother’s pricelss tears What is their worth? Today my country grew richer than it was ever before A ruthless river of salty waters with precious pearls Falls in the ground that engulfed their sons Pear after pearl, they fall and disperse Beware of a mother’s curse! I gather your in my arms now Kissing your cheeks the cold brow Fast asleep you are my love You always gave me a hard time before going to bed But tonight you sleep so easily? Your eyes open inwards Watching some unseen glory You didn’t even wait for me To finish my bedtime story? Wake up! Don’t you want to know? Will the Bad King rule forever? Will the Princess ever return to her castle? The little Riding hood in Red? Will the bad guys be dead! I beat my breast as I hold you I am sorry! Today was nothing like any story I ever told you… What filthy creatures were those? That took all you away… I sit numb Lifeless... Quiet…. As lifeless as I first saw you Sprawled with you friends at the hospital floor If God had a door I would have banged it loudest But for now I wait for the divine design…….. With a burning heart, my eyes seething I wonder why is everyone still breating If I had a weapon! I will snatch smiles of these faces But I wait beyond our times Beyond where human race is They will be answerable For the children gone For the faded smiles For the unfinished stories For the unsung songs For the generation lost!
