With a heavy heart and much sadness, I inform that my wonderful, unique, determined, brave aunt Catherine (Nee Kohut) Terlecky of NY since 1960 (born in Laszky, Western Ukraine), who just celebrated 100 years 2 weeks ago, passed away yesterday In New York City. She was one of my great role models while I was growing up. Her strength, fighting spirit and courage gave me impetus to know that I could do whatever I set my mind to, to have faith in God that all will work out, especially during difficult times. She would have been a great CEO if she had been born at a different time in history. She went through many hardships in her life, one after another, including World War II, separation from her husband because of the war, deportation by Akcija Wisla to Poland, displaced person camp, difficulties as a single mother coming to New York in 1960 at the age of 45, losing her son Roman Terletsky, to a hit and run near Souzivka in 2007 and her older son Bohdan Terlecky, last year to cancer. She left behind her nieces: my sister Maria Paska (NY) and me, her grandniece, Adriana Paska (NY), her grand nephews, Anthony Paska (NY), Andrew Paska (NY),and my son Andriy Stelmach (NJ); her grandchildren Taras and Lesyk Terlecky of NJ, and Myron, Natalie and Alex of Florida; also extended Kaczmar, Kohut and Siryj families in Ukraine. For those wishing to show their respects, viewing will be Sunday, November 29, 2014 2-5 p.m. & 6-9 p.m. with parastas at 7 p.m at Peter Jarema Funeral Home, 7th Street, NY, NY jaremafuneralhome/index.html Funeral Mas at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church (30 East 7th Street, NY, NY) on Monday December 1, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. with a burial at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Hamptonburg, New York holyspirit-saintandrew.org/ immediately after the funeral Mass.
