With a possible ice storm approaching and the possibility for power outages, please remember these tips: Report the outage directly through our Smart Hub e-bill. On your smart phone or tablet, search for Smart Hub in the Apple or Android store. After downloading (its free), search for Midwest Electric Ohio. Register and log in. During an outage, tap on Service Status, then Report an Outage. This will report it directly to our mapping and dispatch systems. Additionally, with our new meters we typically know already when your power is out. However, we still recommend that you report the outage. You can also call to report the outage, 1-800-962-3830. Or if you have access to a computer with power, you can report it through our e-bill page. Stay away from fallen power lines. Always assume they’re energized and dangerous. If you’re inside a car and a power line has fallen on it, stay inside the car. If you step out, you could be killed simply by touching the car and the ground at the same time. Also be safe with generators. They emit carbon monoxide, a deadly gas, so never run a generator indoors. Never connect a generator directly to your home’s wiring unless you have a UL listed transfer switch to prevent backfeeding onto power lines. Keep refrigerators and freezers closed. A refrigerator will keep food safe for about four hours without power. A freezer can keep food safe for up to 48 hours without power. Prepare an emergency kit before the outage hits, midwestrec/safety/ifYourPowerFails.aspx We follow a power restoration plan of returning power to the greatest number of members first, then working down to smaller and individual outages, midwestrec/Outage%20Restoration%20FAQs.pdf
