With a raw diet, the digestive tract uses a fraction of the the energy to break down food into energy. Did you know that the digestive tract takes up about 60% of the bodys energy? This is why we feel so tired after stuffing our stomach full of heavy foods. Processed foods, meat, and dairy put a heavy burden on the digestive tract. Ever try to tenderize meat with a mallet? Can you imagine the energy the body uses to breakdown that meat? We all have enzymes in our body that help break down foods, but nature also made all raw living foods rich in enzymes that make it easier to breakdown in the stomach. When we cook foods, process them or pasteurize them it kills these helpful enzymes and the body is left with having to use its own supply... Which is not in infinite quantities and dont perform as well entirely alone with out other living food enzymes, so after a while the body becomes depleted of these enzymes and it ends up taking more energy to breakdown food into energy than it gains from the food in energy. Basically it becomes counter productive. When the body isnt digesting foods, it has to be doing something else where... So where is it directed? Its directed/focused into healing and strengthening the rest of the body. The immune system, the brain, the heart, the kidneys, muscle tissue, skin, hair, nails, etc... This is why fasting is so powerful too. Fasting resets the system and directs all energy into healing and strengthening. Its also amazing spiritually because the energy is left open to channel the higher realms that exist and are always present in the infinite energy field.
