With a warm blob of water thats kept the interior waters of the Straight and northern US waters of our Salish Sea just 3 degrees above average........to send 99% (20 million)of the largest anticipated sockeye fish run to divert to the north bypassing American waters. Millions of dollars have been invested by local non-indian and tribal commercial fishermen in vessel acquisitions, vessel improvements, nets, electronics, fuel, gear....etc. This diversion is creating one of the worst economic fishing disasters in modern history.....IN HISTORY! Our elders told us stories of sooo many fish that use to fill our local waters... that it use to look like heavy rain drops because of the fish jumping and slashing..... our rivers sooo full of salmon that you could walk on their backs to cross the river. Where are our salmon now? Our rivers devastated in 150 years of settlement.... forests ripped from our hillsides, creeks bulldozed over and culverts inserted to create faster water run off, the rivers dredged so logs could be tugged down our local rivers (weyrehouser) , the greed of the old time corporate fish companies that overfished and wasted billions of salmon (Slade Gordons... Gordons fish company), slack environmental protection policies that are written to continue to support corporate development but keep environmentalist and ignorant public believing laws are in place to protect the environment, your investment companies, 401k plans and stock portfolios that mask the hidden destruction to our mother earth, realty companies and banking systems that lend fictitious loans and credit...... In my short lifetime, sometimes I honestly feel that im witnessing the last of the earths clean air, semi clean water and wildlife.....soon our beautiful pacific northwest will look as dirty as the east coast cities and beaches..... our Salish Seas ecosystem is so fragile that we as humans will have destroyed this area in just 400 years (1850-2250) an ecosystem thats been building itself for billions to get to this point.... praying for our northwest tribal fisherman still out there trying to survive off the only profession they know...struggling to keep the foods on their plates and clothes on their backs. Worst fishing disaster in history. Its time to roll up our sleeves and start gathering data to help our families in distress.....knowing that our tribe has their back....we will continue to rewrite the laws to protect our habitat, to replant the trees that have been destroyed, to fight to put the over allocated water back into our rivers, to monitor cow manner thats dumped into the creeks, to make sure that fertilizers arent leached into our well waters, to protect our soils and crops from genetically modified seeds..... thank you Creator for this beautiful morning knowing that my heart is with my family, my families thats struggling on the waters......honoring earth today...everyday....for your abundance and forgiveness.
