With all due deference and respect to the countrys Islamic scholars, this was an event for all Malaysians, and running counter to the opinions of ulama does not translate into an insult to an entire religion. I am not a learned scholar, but as a Muslim myself, I appreciate the Islamic principle of ijtihad, or judging for ones self the right and wrong of any one situation, couched in religious teachings. An event called I want to touch a dog held in Malaysia recently aimed to change perceptions of canines amongst Muslims in the country.
