With all due respect and humility, I think it would be constructive to make a comment: Since joining this group, I’ve noticed a large number of artists here primarily focusing on copying from reference photos. That is, using photoshop to duplicate a digital photograph as closely as possible. Images from Game of Thrones seem to be particularly popular! While there is no doubt some educational value in this, my opinion as someone who has been a game industry artist for over a decade, is that photo copying is *not* a hireable skill. If your goal is to get a job as something like a concept artist, you should be focusing on creating original works that draw inspiration from reference, rather than duplicating it. You don’t have to take my word for it: Feng Zhu alludes to this is his video “Paining Studies,” the only one of over 70 videos that he directly copies from a photo. artbyfeng/tutorials.htm As artists it’s our job to use our skill and experience to express what’s in our imagination! Duplicating is fine in small doses, but let’s see some original stuff!
