With all of the horrifying, heart-wrenching images coming in I - TopicsExpress

With all of the horrifying, heart-wrenching images coming in I wanted to remind myself of the humanity people and land that I love. Palestine is not just a headline. Palestinians are people as beautiful and as individual as you. Palestine is generosity. Its the boy who climbed a tree in Jerusalem so that I could taste a lemon so sweet you could eat it off the rind. Palestine is gratitude. Its the girls I met at Balata Refugee Camp whose warm smiles made you forget that they were living as refugees in their own countries. Most of them orphans. Palestine is creativity. Its my Uncle Ihsan. A brilliant engineer who took me with him to show me his plans for a park for families in Hebron. Its the Alice in Wonderland play I went to in Jenin. Palestine is beauty. Its the rolling hills with tenderly cared for olive trees that pre-date the conflict. Its the ocean in Akka. Its the cobblestone roads. Palestine is history. It can be read without a single word. It is the lines and folds on our beloved elders faces. Its the architectural wonders that remain despite the brutality. Finally, Palestine is the first picture in this series. The one that made me sob uncontrollably. Palestine is a day trip with with my grandmother, my Aunt Huda and her family. Its sitting amoungst the greenery and having my Sitto teach the new generation about the different vegetation and tales of Palestine past. Palestine is the countless other family members, friends and strangers alike who I love and miss. Palestine is human.
