With all the talk going around about domestic violence and why people stay in abusive relationships, I have yet to hear any conversation about approaching individuals that are perpetuating this behavior. I dont want to get involved. Nobody knows the full story. Thats just how they are, to call it abuse is being a bit dramatic. They are just drunk, its not a huge. They have experienced [insert tragic event/childhood/mental difficulty] Its just awkward. Yes, it is awkward. It is awkward as hell to ask someone if they are emotionally and physically safe. It can also be really uncomfortable to stand up for what is right. It is even more difficult to draw the line in the sand with people that you might like, but dont treat other people well. There are a lot of funny and charismatic abusers out there, and in that wake, there needs to be even larger numbers of strong and willing friends that will step out and be honest with people they care about. Culpability is not being a jerk, its being attentive to creating a caring society that works for everyone.
