With competition season coming to an end and competitors entering their offseason, I have been getting a lot of messages about how do I handle my offseason and not being shredded. Well, to be honest…I struggle a lot with it. Its not the easiest thing to do but Ive improved a lot compared to how I used to be. I am asked, How can I build muscle in my offseason and still have abs?….You cant. Sorry. With reverse dieting you can build your calories up and stay leaner vs if you were to drastically boost your calories because its offseason. I ask you this though…with or without abs, are you still the same person? Are you still surrounded by those that love and support you? Do they care if youre shredded or not? Here is my advice to those who have been messaging me…be you. Be yourself. Learn to love yourself no matter what. Each day you wake up, live your life like its your last. Instead of worrying about how lean you are or how your 6 pack is slowly fading away, try holding a door for someone. Ask a stranger if they need help carrying their groceries to their car. Pay for someones drink behind you at the Starbucks drive thru. Make a difference. Do something that will make you feel good about yourself other than focusing on what you see in the mirror. This doesnt mean give up your passion in the gym. Continue to keep your head down and work your ass off. But live your life outside of the gym as well.
