With gigs & the Church of Soccer this weekend, I wanted to acknowledge the passing of the legendary Joe Sample. The piano star was known for pushing the boundaries of jazz. Sample collaborated with artists like Miles Davis, B.B. King, Marvin Gaye and Steely Dan and was best known as the founder of the Crusaders. He passed away Friday night in his hometown of Houston at the age of 75. Growing up, Joe & Wilton Felders work with The Crusaders was my earliest & strongist jazz influence. He was also a musical hero to my friend & producer, Daniel Epp. When Dan & I recorded ABSOLUTE POSITIVITY, our personal favorite song was titled JOES PLACE as an homage to our biggest musical mentor. It is the kickoff song at all my jazz concerts & is linked here & humbly dedicated to Joe. Our thoughts & prayers are with his wife Yolanda & extended family. Thanks Joe! May your music live on in Eternity! https://youtube/watch?v=yQD5u79jZ-4
