With just over three weeks to go until Suffolk based Americana and Roots festival kicks off, THE MAVERICK FESTIVAL announces four more exciting acts to their already bursting festival programme this July. First off we have UK singer songwriter DAN RAZA alongside his band ‘The Shrouds’. With his subtle textures, deft powerful melodies and an enigmatic wistfulness, Neil Young gave him the thumbs up by including him on his Living With War website. Dan’s distinctive approach has led to him supporting Joan Armatrading on a recent European tour, as well as opening for artists such as Mary Gauthier and Badly Drawn Boy. Tipped by MOJO magazine as ‘one of the UK’s best kept secrets’ in addition to top reviews from the Independent and Americana UK (9/10), we are excited to announce JASON MCNIFF is also added to this years bill. Jason is a London based Yorkshireman of Irish and Polish descent who brings dark songs of drunkenness and murder. Alongside Dan and Jason, POLLY & THE BILLETS DOUX, who have been described by The Sunday Times as “a harmonious blend of folk, rock, blues, soul and gospel’, have been added to the lineup to bring us a perfect gospel brunch on the Sunday. STEPHEN KELLOG, whose music is a mixture of both intimate truth-telling and outlandish posing, an American amalgam of Rock and Roll, Country, and Folk will also be gracing the stage this year. Another special guest attending this year’s festival is the legendary Gram Parsons/Flying Burrito Brothers bass player IAN DUNLOP who will be in conversation with the Guardian‘s TIM DOWLING on Saturday 6th July. Ian will discuss his life on the road with GRAM PARSONS and his book, “Breakfast in Nudie Suits“ which documents their experiences together in the late sixties. As well as all this, we have even more news… What do Elton John, Dolly Parton and REM have in common? The answer is BJ COLE - the much sought-after steel guitar maestro.
