With less than one week to go before the Oceania Championships in Rarotonga we thought it might be worth looking at some of the athletes we will have in action at the Championships. First up we will take a look at Fijis sprint sensation, Banuve Tabakaucoro 100 metres / 200 metres Federation: Fiji Age: 22 Personal Best: 100 metres: 10.33 - Wallis and Futuna – September 2013 – Pacific Mini Games 200 metres: 21.01 - Apia, Samoa – June 2011 - Oceania Championships Season Best: 10.44 - Melbourne, March 2014 - Australian National Championships Banuve Tabacoro has been competing for many years through the school system in Fiji. Banuve or “Banz” as he is also known has held several high school titles for the 100M and 200M. In the last 4 years Banuve has improved to become a stand out competitor at many competitions around the region. In 2011 Banuve ran 21.01 in the 200M becoming the fastest man in the Pacific over the Distance. In 2013 Banuve competed at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow where he qualified for the first round of the 100m where he places 7th with a time of 10.53. 3 weeks later Banuve competed at the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna where he collected gold in the 100m with a time of 10.33, the 200m and the 4X400m. Banuve will leave Rarotonga to prepare for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
